DEADLY STORMS HIT WESTERN EUROPE

STORM 'XYNTHIA' BATTERS EUROPE
FLOODS AND WINDS KILL AT LEAST 58 PEOPLE
PARIS (CNN) - The savage Atlantic storm Xynthia which has engaged large parts of Western Europe has taken at least 58 lives, with more than 47 of the deaths occurring in France. A winter storm named "Xynthia" battered the western coast of Europe these days, its high winds downing trees and power lines and leaving as many as 58 people dead, authorities said. "This toll is evolving minute by minute and is likely to get worse as our reconnaissance takes us further inland, into houses and car parks," said the civil defense force. Huge waves and strong gusts battered many coastal towns, spreading floods inland and destroying buildings. Residents took to their roofs in the Vendee region and police helicopters were in action attempting to locate and rescue them. More than a million homes in France have lost electricity. "It's a national catastrophe," the French Prime Minister said.

"Many people drowned, surprised by the rapid rise of the water. Now the priority is to bring all the people left homeless and still threatened by the rising waters to safety," the French Minister explained. In Germany, a man was killed and his wife injured when a tree fell on their car in the Black Forest region. A female jogger in the western town of Bergheim, and a man in Belgium, were also killed by falling trees. Two Spanish men died when a tree crushed their car near Burgos. A Spanish woman was killed by a falling wall in Galicia, and a Portuguese boy was killed by a tree in Paredes. Rail services were severely affected in northern Spain and a number of trains in western France were delayed because of flooded tracks.

WHAT DO THE VEDIC TEACHINGS TELL US?
During the time of periodic annihilation, when Lord Brahma was sleeping, a fierce demon names Sankhacuda stole the Vedas from Brahmaloka by overcoming all the higher planetary demigods and then submerged himself in the ocean. …Then the compassionate Supreme Lord Hari, taking the form of a gigantic fish, waged a terrific battle against the demons. Lord Hari then enacting His fighting pastimes with the demon, finally cut the head of the demons with his sharp disc and returned to the higher planets where the Vedas were reinstated as before.
