“THOSE WHO DON’T LOVE ME
DO NOT DESERVE TO LIVE”, SAYS GADDAFI
DO NOT DESERVE TO LIVE”, SAYS GADDAFI
BBC News - “Those who don’t love me do not deserve to live, it will be hell for them”. This is the message from Libyan leader Col Muammar Gaddafi, who has made a speech to crowds in Tripoli that was broadcast live on television last Friday. The colonel who is facing a massive challenge to his 41-year rule, with protesters in control of towns, appeared before supporters of his regime in Green Square: “Prepare to defend Libya,” Gaddafi cried, his fist raised. “Arms deposits are open to arm the people and together we will fight, defeat and kill those who are protesting”. Gaddafi continued. “We defeated Italian invaders and in the same way we will defeat any foreign attempt against us. We will fight, we will fight to regain every piece of Libyan land. We will defeat them as we defeated Italian colonialism,” Gaddafi ended, greeting the crowd and leaving the square.
However, three days later, Colonel Gaddafi has told the BBC he is loved by all his people and has denied there have been any protests in Tripoli. He said that his people would die to protect him. He laughed at the suggestion he would leave Libya and said that he felt betrayed by the world leaders who had urged him to quit. Col Gaddafi accused Western countries of abandoning Libya and said that they had no morals and wanted to colonise the country. He even challenged those, including UK Prime Minister David Cameron, who have accused him of having money abroad, to produce evidence. He said he would “put two fingers in their eye”. About 100,000 people have fled anti-government unrest in Libya over the past week, the UN estimates. The exodus of Egyptian workers from western Libya began on Wednesday and has been intensifying these days.
Colonel Gaddafi did not look like a man under pressure during the interview. He was in a fairly relaxed mood throughout, looking as if he was relishing the biggest challenge he has had in almost 42 years as Libya’s leader. He said the UN Security Council did not understand the situation in his country, where there was no signs of unrest. At the same time, hundreds of rebels in the centre of Zawiya chanted “Gaddafi out”. “Down with Gaddafi, the mass murderer” read one piece of graffiti. An ex army officer said that Col Gaddafi was “Libya’s Dracula”. When rulers stubbornly cling to their jobs and remain in power through violence without hearing the claims of his people, are showing a total lack of understanding about the true purpose of life.
WHAT DO THE VEDIC TEACHINGS TELL US?
It is said, kali-kāle nāma-rūpe krishna avatāra. The Hare Krishna movement is also an incarnation of Krishna in the form of the holy name (nāma-rūpe). Every one of us who is actually afraid of the asuric rulers and politicians must welcome this incarnation of Krishna: Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare. Then we will surely be protected from the harassment of asuric rulers. At the present moment these rulers are so powerful that by hook or by crook they capture the highest posts in government and harass countless numbers of people on the plea of national security or some emergency. Then again, one asura defeats another asura, but the public continues to suffer. Therefore the entire world is in a precarious condition, and the only hope is this Hare Krishna movement.
