ARGENTINA, YOUNG GIRL RAPED AND STRANGLED

ARGENTINA SHOCKED FOR RAPE
AND MURDER OF 16 YEARS GIRL
www.lanacion.com.ar - Amid the strong shock at the murder of Ángeles Rawson - a 16 year old girl who was found dead yesterday in an area of the Ceamse in José León Suárez after she was kidnapped in the neighborhood of Colegiales - has finished this morning the autopsy on her body. Sources close to the investigation say that the girl was raped and strangled.
At 9.45 am on Monday, Angels ended her gymnastics class in the premises that Ceamse College has in the aforementioned neighborhood located in Concepción Arenal and Cramer. "I will eat and come back," she told her friends. The family of the teenager reported her disappearance on Monday and yesterday, close to 3.00 pm, Ángeles's body was found tied up in a bag, in the middle of trash and garbage, at the José León Suárez Park.

The latest tracks indicate that the cell phone reported that on Monday morning from the apparatus of the girl made a call to a bank which lasted about 10 minutes, then made a virtual charging 50 pesos and about 22 hours the phone is turned off.
The coroner Miguel Maldonado stated that the murder of 16 year old acted at least two people. "There was some kind of logistics and organization. Rapist was not alone," he said. "There are many things that do not close one to be the perpetrator. Could not have been the man band doing all that," said the expert. "I do I simplify the question. This has been one thing led. Least two people were acting. Logistics There were a number of evidence that indicate some kind of organization," he said.

In Argentina, when it was known a new case of the huge lack of security in this South American country, many people from different social areas have raised their voices protesting for the situation and calling for "justice" to this new young victim. This is a 16 year old girl, named Angeles Rawson, who was reported missing a day earlier and was found tied in a bag, amid the garbage bags, with signs of having been raped and then strangled. Violence born of lust and all kinds of cruelty against women causes great disturbances in the world.

WHAT DO THE VEDIC TEACHINGS TELL US?
Material lust is like a blazing fire, never leaving a person with any peace. Such desires always force people to attempt to satisfy their cravings. The flames of such desires consume all hope for peace in such individuals. When society is made of many such individuals, whose primary interest is to simply satisfy their own desires and gratify their senses, this disorder prevents peace in human society. Society remains in a state of escalating chaos. Such disorder grows to the degree in which society pursues selfish gratification. ... Lust is there when you want to satisfy your material desires. Anger will always be there in some form when you fail to achieve what you want, or when you attain it but then lose it.

FLOODS WREAK HAVOC IN GERMANY

FLOOD MISERY AS SURGING ELBE
BREACHES DEFENSES IN GERMANY
http://edition.cnn.com - Soldiers dropped huge sandbags from army helicopters Tuesday as part of efforts to stem devastating flooding in northern Germany after the swollen Elbe River breached flood defenses. A sea of muddy brown water has flowed through two broken dikes in the state of Saxony-Anhalt, forcing the evacuation of thousands of people from their homes. The situation is stabilizing in the flooded village of Fischbeck, near the town of Stendal, which was left largely submerged after a dike there broke Sunday, officials said.
The flow of water pouring through a gaping breach nearly 50 meters (160 feet) across is now slowing, and water levels have dropped slightly across the state, Interior Minister said.

The water level around Stendal has dropped about half a meter (20 inches) since its peak Monday morning, and should drop another 20 inches in the next 24 to 48 hours. The peak surpassed 8.2 meters (26.9 feet), breaking the 2002 record of 7.68 meters (25.2 feet). Police shut down the center of Wittenberg on Tuesday, a day after German Chancellor Angela Merkel visited to meet volunteers and see flood prevention efforts for herself. About 4,000 German soldiers have been deployed in Saxony-Anhalt, with some dispatched to drop the huge bags of sand from the air.
Three people died in the state last week in connection with the flooding. Another five deaths have been reported across the country.

Tens of  thousands of people were being forced to evacuate their homes across swathes of Germany and Hungary these days as further dramatic rises in the levels of the swollen Elbe and Danube rivers continued to cause some of the most devastating floods ever experienced in Central Europe. In the east German city of Magdeburg, some 23,000 residents were  forced to flee their homes as soldiers, rescue workers and volunteers battled furiously to shore up leaking dykes. Meteorologists says heavy rain was forecast for southern Germany and that further flooding in the region could not be ruled out. Global meat consumption, affects the whole planet without distinction between rich and poor countries.

WHAT DO THE VEDIC TEACHINGS TELL US?
The environmental community rightly recognizes global warming as one of the gravest threats to the planet. The expected consequences include coastal flooding, increases in extreme weather, spreading disease, and mass extinctions. Yet by focusing entirely on carbon dioxide emissions, major environmental organizations have failed to account for published data showing that other gases are the main culprits behind the global warming we see today. ... Animal agriculture produces more than 100 million tons of methane a year ... and the collective effect on the environment of the hundreds of millions of livestock animals worldwide is enormous. ... Simply by going vegetarian we can eliminate one of the major sources of emissions of methane, the greenhouse gas responsible for almost half of the global warming impacting the planet today.

IS YOUR DESIGNATED DRIVER TOO DRUNK TO DRIVE?

DESIGNATED DRIVERS OFTEN
FAIL TO ABSTAIN FROM DRINKING
www.wyso.org - We might need to change the definition of a designated driver from noble abstainer to something along the lines of not as drunk as you. The idea of having one person in a group agree not to drink so that everyone else can get home safely after a night of alcohol-fueled fun has been promoted as a way to reduce the dangers of drunken driving, especially among teenagers and young adults. But when researchers put the idea to the test, the results weren't all that reassuring.
Breath tests of young adults leaving a bar on Saturday night, they found that 41 % of the designated drivers had been drinking. Almost 20 % had been drinking enough to be considered impaired drivers. It may be that these youthful bon vivants interpret the duties of designated driver differently than do safety advocates.

In this study, researchers at the University of Florida tested the blood alcohol levels of 1,071 people leaving bars in Gainesville on Saturday night, after a Gators home football game. There were 165 people who said they were designated drivers. The breath test showed that 41 % had been drinking. Seventeen % of the designated drivers had blood alcohol levels of 0.02 or below, so they might be able to make the case that they were kind of safe behind the wheel. But 18 % had blood alcohol levels of 0.05 or higher. Uh-oh.
All of the participants were above 18; their average age was around 30, and about half of them were students. The drinkers who weren't designated drivers did have higher blood alcohol levels than the designated drivers, on average ... if that's any consolation.

The Abstainer, the Chosen One: designated drivers are known by many names, but according to a recent study, one name that many designated drivers don't live up to is “sober,” says the reporter Richard Read. Researchers found that 165 participants who identified themselves as designated drivers, 35% admitted that they had consumed alcohol during the course of the evening. “To parents of college-age kids, that's very important to keep in mind,” he explained. “If you've got children of your own, talk to them about the importance of choosing a designated driver wisely and in advance.” If they can not refrain from drinking alcohol, there is always the option of calling a cab.

WHAT DO THE VEDIC TEACHINGS TELL US?
Intoxication is one of the more obvious sinful activities because so many people develop addictions to it. Whether it be alcohol, cigarettes, marijuana, or caffeine, addiction to intoxication is very common.  Considering the fact that our senses are impossible to satisfy, it is no surprise that many take to intoxication in an attempt to break free of the senses.  Instead of trying to escape the senses, the Vedas tell us to purify them through practicing devotional service to God, or Bhakti yoga. ... The easiest way to refrain from these activities is to always keep yourself engaged in God’s service wherever you are and whatever you may be doing. Keep chanting “Hare Krishna Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare, Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare” and you will be guaranteed of success.

SHE WANTED BIGGER BUM, BUT GOT DISABILITY

I LOST MY LIMBS IN THE QUEST FOR A
BIGGER BUM, SAYS AMERICAN WOMAN
http://tribune.com.ng - A woman, Apryl Michelle Brown shared her experience of how she lost her hands, legs and buttocks to fake silicone. The 46-year-old former hairdresser blames “vanity” and wants to warn others of the terrible dangers of such illegal treatments. I got the butt implants 8 years ago,” she said. The procedure was carried out by an unlicenced practitioner in Los Angeles, she said, with complications leading to several stints as a hospital inpatient. She said: Teased as a child about her “pancake” bum, Apryl vowed to buy a shapelier one when she was older.
“ I’ve paid a terrible price for vanity and I’ll pay for the rest of my life. But I blame no one but myself, I want to share my story to warn others about these so-called ‘quick fix’ surgeries.” “I didn’t realise the dangers. I thought it was a harmless injection that would give me the perfect bottom. But the reality was the silicone used wasn’t suitable for humans,” she said. It was, in fact, bathroom sealant.

Apryl admitted: “I didn’t do any research. A combination of naivety, misplaced trust and insecurity led me to take this disastrous decision. I trusted her because she seemed so professional, and I had no reason to think anything awful was going to happen”. “She carried out the procedure in her daughter’s bedroom.” ... “My body had a massive allergic reaction to it which left me at the brink of death. I was in so much agony that, by that point, dying would have been a release. The only way doctors could save my life was to amputate my buttocks, my hands and feet.”
“My message is never to look for something outside of ourselves to validate ourselves, we are already born whole and we are already born perfect and we are already born complete. And there is nothing outside of us that would make us feel good if we don’t feel good on the inside,” she said.

An American woman decided to treat herself to silicone injections that would boost her booty and give her the figure she’d always dreamt of. But the injections turned out to be industrial rather than approved silicone, and after catching an infection she had to suffer a quadruple amputation, and having her buttocks removed. Now, she shares her story in a bid to stop others potentially harming themselves due to vanity. “I want to warn others of the dangers of black-market surgery. My greatest message is we have to learn to love and accept ourselves for who we are.” It is vital that people see that happiness is not achieved by means of beautifying the body, but by serving the Supreme Lord.

WHAT DO THE VEDIC TEACHINGS TELL US?
One of the biggest dangers is the obsession with the appeal of the material body. One might think that the beauty of the body is the most important, and with this mentality to accommodate the longing for a physical appearance different from what we have. This is what feeds the impressive business of cosmetic surgery. ... Men and women are under the same mistaken belief that their true nature is the body and forget that the greatest beauty resides inside. ... Cosmetic surgery increases the dissatisfaction with life; due to the fact that it really does not please the soul. We will be happy when we can advance spiritually and even more so when we will be able to know God and to feel His universal love, which binds us, all the inhabitants of the planet together.

SACRED HINDU TREES AND PLANTS

SACRED TREES AND PLANTS
WORSHIPED IN HINDUISM
www.boldsky.com - In Hinduism, many trees and plants are worshiped. In ancient scriptures too, it is mentioned that plants and trees are worshiped and it is practiced by Hindus since ages. The Aryans worshiped the nature and we all in some or the other way still practice this tradition.
Banana: Though banana is not a tree, its size and structure makes it count as a tree. This sacred Hindu tree is used in many religious ways. The trunk is used for pujas, the leaves are hanged on the entrance of the gate, and also used to serve food. The fruit is offered to Lord Ganesha.
Mango: This sacred tree in Hinduism has been mentioned in Ramayana, Mahabharata and the Puranas. The fruit is a symbol of love, purity and fertility. According to the ancient believers, mango leaves symbolise life.

Peepal tree: It represents Trimurti; Brahma (root), Vishnu (trunk) and Shiva (leaves). It is the Bodh tree (tree of enlightenment), under which Lord Buddha attained enlightenment. Tulsi: Every married Hindu woman worships this sacred tree that is planted in front of the courtyard. Tulsi beads can be seen on the necks of yogis and mystics. It is worn to purify the body, mind and soul. In religious terms, no puja can be commenced without tulsi leaves.
Bael tree: In Shivratri, you can easily see many bael leaves and fruit offered to Lord Shiva. The trifoliate leaf or tripatra, bael flowers and fruit are all offered to Lord Shiva. Sandalwood tree: Its paste is considered holy and pure and it is applied on Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva. It is believed that Goddess Parvati used sandalwood paste to create Lord Ganesha.

Many trees and plants are considered sacred in Hinduism and they are worshiped in India. Amrisha, the author of this article, explains that from basil (tulsi) to banana tree, religious plants hold a special spiritual significance in Hinduism. As an example, she notes that banana trees are widely worshiped on Thursdays to impress Lord Vishnu. The mango tree leaves are used in several rituals and pujas. Peepal tree is also sacred to Buddhists. Tulsi is said to be loved by Lord Vishnu and Vrinda Devi. Bael is a sacred Hindu tree which is always associated with Lord Shiva. It is believed that the offering of bael leaves is good to please Him. Sandalwood tree and its paste are considered sacred, too.

WHAT DO THE VEDIC TEACHINGS TELL US?
Respect for plants and the resources that we depend on is a basic premise of the Vedic culture. ... However, there are some specific plants that are given more respect for particular reasons. The Tulasi tree is very special. It is not unusual to find it in many temples in India in the courtyard, or even in homes. A leaf from the Tulasi plant is placed on the food that is offered to Lord Vishnu or Krishna. It is His favorite tree. ... During worship or rituals, leaves from some select trees are used as essential accessories, but among them all, the Betel leaf (pana) enjoys a place of pride in India. The Betel leaf is symbolic of freshness and prosperity. The use of Betel leaf in India is mentioned in the great epics, such as the Ramayana and the Mahabharata, as well as in Buddhist and Jain literature.

TODAY IS WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY

WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY 2013
ITS THEME IS “THINK. EAT. SAVE”
www.dnaindia.com - World Environment Day (WED) is celebrated each year on June 5 to spread global awareness among the inhabitants of earth regarding mother nature. Each year this day is celebrated with a theme and this year the theme is THINK.EAT.SAVE. According to the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), every year 1.3 billion tonnes of food is wasted. At the same time, 1 in every 7 people in the world go to bed hungry and more than 20,000 children under the age of 5 die daily due to hunger.
This year's theme encourages reduction of food wastage and be more aware of the environmental impact of their food choices, which in turn will help save money and minimise the environmental impact of food production. It is the responsibility of every citizen to help maintain the ecological balance.

Here are 5 things that you can do as a global citizen: 1) Spread awareness: The major purpose of this year's theme is to start making changes from the household level. 2) Build a small farm or garden: We know it's difficult to find space in a metropolitan city, but if you're blessed with one, make and maintain a small farm or garden. 3) Travel by public transport: Take public transportation on World Environment Day and vow to take it more often than you do. If you're already a public transport user, take a walk.
4)  Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Renew, Recycle: If you're not already into this habit, it's a good day of the year to start. These 5R's are magic mantras when it comes to environmental conservation and sustainable usage. 5) Publicise: Let people know what you plan to do and do it this World Environment Day.

World Environment Day - which is similar to Earth Day - is celebrated annually on June 5th and was created to inspire people around the globe to become active about the environment and learn more about ways they can help to ensure the future of our planet is safe. Each year the United Nations pick a theme and a host city where environmental topics can be discussed. This year (2013) Mongolia is the global host of WED 2013, and the theme is “Think.Eat.Save.” Many environmentalists, academics and scientists will come together to bring new ideas to the table concerning the environment. They should search for spiritual and moral inspiration about environmentalism in the ancient Vedic culture.

WHAT DO THE VEDIC TEACHINGS TELL US?
Long before ecology became the refrain of the global song at Stockholm and Rio, the ancient Indic heritage had already provided a spacious spiritual home for the environmental ethos. In the West, the term ‘ecology’ was coined only in the latter half of the 19th century from the Greek word Oikos, meaning ‘home’. But India has, throughout trackless centuries, provided an ample expanse of friendly space for an open and ongoing discourse of ideas. The Jain, Vedic and Buddhist traditions established the principles of ecological harmony centuries ago - not because the world was perceived as heading for an imminent environmental disaster or destruction, nor because of any immediate utilitarian exigency, but through its quest for spiritual and physical symbiosis, synthesized in a system of ethical awareness and moral responsibility.

A BANK TO DEPOSIT RAM "NAAM"

DEPOSITS IN RAM RAMAPATI BANK:
RAM NAAM WRITTEN ON PAPERS
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com - Varanasi: Banks are in vogue. They always were and will be. Almost all of them transact in worldly currencies but some are exceptions. The Ram Ramapati Bank situated in Dashashwmedh (India) area is one of those rare exceptions. Here the owner of the bank lends not money but paper, pen and ink that are used by its customers to inscribe 'RAM'. These papers are then deposited in their respective accounts in the bank, which has a deposition of over 19 billion Ram 'naam' scripted on papers. Counting is done in January every year.
The bank, started by Das Channulal Ji, in 1926 as a family and friends business now has an international presence, many of the account-holders are NRIs (non-resident Indian).

Like all banks, Ram Ramapati Bank also has rules for its transactions. Anybody, irrespective of caste, gender, religion and even nationality, can be its member, but the only prerequisite is that the person should have a firm belief in Lord Ram. "It doesn't matter who you are and where you come from, you can be a member of this bank if you have faith in Ram and are ready to follow conditions laid by the bank," said Das Krishna Chand, manager of the Ram Ramapati Bank. Conditions include the first phase deposition of one and a half lakh Ram 'naam' in eight months during which no alcohol and non-vegetarian food is allowed.
Though most of the account-holders are devout Hindus and followers of Lord Ram, but there are a few members of other religions too who have deposited their scripts in the bank.

The Ram Ramapati Bank celebrated its 86th years on the occasion of Ram Navami. The entire family of Das Krishna Chand are involved in managing the bank and they explain: "We all are trying to preserve and expand the dream with which our great-great grandfather had started the bank", said Manish. "Humare kuch Muslim aur Sikh bhaiyon ne bhi mannatein puri hone par Ram nam jama kiye hain (even some Muslims and Sikh brothers have deposited Ram 'naam' hare after their wishes were granted)," said Sumit. In the Vedic culture, the Holy name of the Lord is always taken with the attitude of reverence and service.

WHAT DO THE VEDIC TEACHINGS TELL US?
Lord Sri Ramacandra is the seventh avatara of the Dasavatara. ...  In the pastimes of Lord Ramacandra, the dignity of moral codes is established. Therefore, Sri Ramacandra is known as Maryada Purushottama (the best form of the Supreme Lord in following codes of morality). Sri Rama’s pastimes exhibit all rasas up to vatsalya rasa (parental affection). ... His pastimes strongly evoke the sentiment of compassion. By the mercy of Sri Ramacandra, we can be saved from immorality and adharma (unrighteousness). ... He taught all these lessons by setting the example Himself. ... One can see the significant influence of the holy character of Lord Ramacandra’s pastimes in the life of the Hindu society of India.

DIABETES: DIRTY AIR MAY RAISE INSULIN RESISTANCE RISK

AIR POLLUTION INCREASES RISK
OF INSULIN RESISTANCE IN CHILDREN
www.bbc.co.uk - Children's exposure to air traffic pollution could increase their risk of insulin resistance, which can lead to diabetes in adults, suggests a study in Diabetologia. German research on 397 10-year-olds found that living close to a major road increased resistance by 7% per 500m.
Air pollutants are known to be oxidisers that can impact on lipids and proteins in the blood. But some experts say the results should be treated with caution. The children in the study were invited for blood sampling at the age of 10, and glucose and insulin measurements were taken. Their level of exposure to traffic pollution was estimated using air pollution figures from 2008-09 for their birth address neighbourhood.

The results were adjusted to take into account birth weight, body mass index (BMI) and exposure to second-hand smoke at home. The study concluded that levels of insulin resistance were greater in children with higher exposure to air pollution, such as nitrogen dioxide and fine particulate matter. It also found a larger effect in children with higher BMIs.
Elisabeth Thiering and Joachim Heinrich, who led the research at the German Research Centre for Environmental Health in Neuherberg, said the link between traffic pollution and insulin resistance could be explained. "Although toxicity differs between air pollutants, they are all considered potent oxidisers that act either directly on lipids and proteins, or indirectly through the activation of intracellular oxidant pathways," said Dr Heinrich.

Previous studies have shown links between air pollution and atherosclerosis and heart disease, but this new research shows that growing up in areas where air pollution is increased raises the risk of insulin resistance (the precursor to diabetes) in children, who are particularly vulnerable. "Breathing the same pollutant concentrations, children may have a two to fourfold higher dose reaching the lung," said Prof Frank Kelly. The development of diabetes in adults might have its origin in early life and associated with environmental exposures to air pollution. We should live in a simpler way, in more contact with nature and become God conscious.

WHAT DO THE VEDIC TEACHINGS TELL US?
The cosmic situation is giving us all facility to reestablish this relationship with Krishna and return to Godhead. ... Everything we need is being supplied by God - land, grain, fruits, milk, shelter and clothing. We only have to live peacefully and cultivate Krishna consciousness. That should be our mission in life. We should therefore be satisfied with what God has supplied in the form of food, shelter, defense and sex, and should not want more and more and more. The best type of civilization is one that ascribes to the maxim of "plain living and high thinking." … Although God has given us all facilities to live peacefully on this earth, cultivate Krishna consciousness, and finally to come to Him, in this age we're unfortunate.

BULLYING CASE ENDED IN SUICIDE

ARGENTINA: SHOCK FOR BULLYING
THAT CAUSED ANOTHER TEEN SUICIDE
www.diariopopular.com.ar The incident occurred in Posadas, Argentina. The young boy, aged 14, left letters for the family and jumped from a ninth floor. A judge is investigating whether it was a response to "harassment" and "school humiliation." Rodrigo Troche left three letters, one for his parents and two for his brothers, in which he explained the reasons for his drastic decision. The young man jumped from a ninth floor around noon on Tuesday. Social networks are at the heart of the debate. The priest Juan Rajimón, rector of the College Roque Gonzalez where the adolescent attended, asked parents "be alert" and "review the behavior" on the Internet.
The priest explained that "Rodrigo was a good student, quiet and reserved, in the class we did not detect he was going through a difficult situation; he had good grades and excellent behavior."

Rajimón considered that in these cases "is that we have to be alert, work more with teens. Times have changed, especially with them. There are things they know and adults do not, for example, the issue of social networks, young people do not take dimensions of the things that they upload and when they do, they do not how to eliminate things from there." Judge César Yaya, who instructs the case of suicide of this fourteen year old, deemed it necessary to sensitize society so that no more cases of school bullying and humiliation leading to tragic ends occur. He also indicated that, he is considering that the suicide has been caused due to the harassment and humiliation at school.
"The event is being researched and it is something that happens more than we think and often with our own children. An adolescent lives situations which for an adult may not seem so tragic to take such a dramatic decision, but for them it is very traumatic," he said.

School intimidation (or bullying) is a common form of violence against children. According to a new research from UNICEF between 50% and 70% of students in Latin America have been harassed or have witnessed bullying incidents. While school abuse is not a new phenomenon,  recently, technology and social networks have increased exponentially the reach and impact of this problem. Cyber abuse (cyberbullying) is conducted on the Internet and cell phones and may have, such as bullying, negative impact on mental health: substance abuse and suicide. Bullying is not “guy thing” not a game. It affects the bullied child, as well the bully and the viewer. Don't you think it's time to make a change in society?

WHAT DO THE VEDIC TEACHINGS TELL US?
We have to become activists of the good. There is so much garbage, so much cruelty that has to stop. Modern man has become insensible; anaesthetised by intoxication and consumption, the "human being" prefers the bad, so that he even forgets his own best and directly or indirectly becomes responsible for the corrupt society. We have to make changes, and we have to start with ourselves, because it is almost impossible to change others. One person or the whole world would change if we were capable to inspire them with our own example. The modern "civilized" man is a joke. It is time that we get conscious, even if it pains. The change is necessary, for otherwise, how would there be any hope? The very planet is in danger. We need conscience, even if it pains.

WORLD NO TOBACCO DAY OBSERVED

WORLD NO TOBACCO DAY
CRUSADE AGAINST SMOKERS
www.euronews.com World No Tobacco Day (WNTD) is observed around the world every year on May 31. It aims to encourage a 24-hour period of abstinence from all forms of tobacco consumption across the globe. Another intended purpose is to draw global attention to the widespread prevalence of tobacco use and to the negative health effects of using tobacco products, which currently lead to an estimated 5.4 million deaths worldwide annually.
The member states of the World Health Organisation (WHO) created World No Tobacco Day in 1987. In the past twenty years, the day has been met with both enthusiasm and resistance across the globe from governments, public health organizations, smokers, growers, and the tobacco industry. Each year May 31 is observed as World No Tobacco Day (WNTD), but do we actually understand its importance? Many smokers pledge to quit smoking on this day and forget it just the next day?

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO) , the tobacco epidemic is one of the biggest public health threats the world has ever faced. It kills nearly six million people a year, of whom more than five million are from direct tobacco use, while more than 600,000 of tobacco’s victims are non-smokers exposed to second-hand smoke. Approximately one person dies every six seconds due to tobacco and this accounts for one in 10 adult deaths. Up to half of current users will eventually die of a tobacco-related disease.
Nearly 80% of the more than one billion smokers worldwide live in low- and middle-income countries, where the burden of tobacco-related illness and death is heaviest. Tobacco users who die prematurely deprive their families of income, raise the cost of health care and hinder economic development.

Since 1987, today May 31 is celebrated as "World No Tobacco Day". The event features enthusiasts and detractors, but is an opportunity to send messages, and encourage the Smoking Control Agreement, stipulated by the World Health Organization (WHO). It is called on countries to prohibit all forms of advertising , smoking promotion and sponsorship to help reduce the number of consumers of tobacco. Tobacco consumption kills nearly 6 million people each year. Health organizations have renewed today the crusade against smokers and in favor of the right not to inhale passively and for compliance with the legislation prohibiting this undue practice into public places.

WHAT DO THE VEDIC TEACHINGS TELL US?
My father told me when he was young, nobody had any idea that cigarettes were bad. It was fashionable to smoke cigarettes.  One movie star always had a cigarette hanging out of his mouth. The way he did it the whole of America was trying to imitate. He was such a sex symbol and such a handsome heroic person. His style became the fashion. ... but he died of cancer of the lips. So doctors began coming out and saying, ‘Cigarettes are going to kill you. Stop Smoking!’ When that message came out cigarette smoking became more popular among the young people. Because they are trying to prove to themselves, “I am daring. I am fearless. I don’t care if I am risking my life.  I am going to do it to be cool. Yes I know it will kill me.” It’s so foolish. It’s just the example of mentality of material existence. We are not willing to listen to good advice.
