In addition, over time, the body is becoming resistant to its effects - and all the “madness” of the passion fades gradually. Dr. Helen Fisher found that the volatility, the excitement, euphoria and lack of sleep and appetite are associated with high levels of dopamine and norepinephrine, the brain’s natural stimulants. Those who support the theory of the existence of pheromones, say that “love at first sight” is a proof that pheromones produce many chemical reactions that result in pleasurable sensations. As we become addicted, the longer is its absence, the more we feel “in love” - the anxiety of passion, then, would be the clearest symptom of withdrawal of substances. So how much love or passion is just a simple chemical reaction?
We mistake love for lust. To love means to seek the greatest good for yourself and others, and since all good things of this world comes from God, there is no love without setting Him in the middle. In true love, we try to conquer the Lord through loving service and then we enjoy sharing this happiness with everyone else. True love is to give spiritual understanding to others.
WHAT DO THE VEDIC TEACHINGS TELL US?
The ultimate purpose of life is ananda, bliss, beatitude, happiness. ... When you search for your own happiness, you try to be related to another person, who is the more pleasing subject to the senses, and try to enjoy it in a pseudo-love relationship. ... We can not possibly call it true love for the concept of love brings the idea of wanting the greatest good for the beloved. But in this case only seeks his personal pleasure. You do not love the person, but the pleasure you get from that person. ... This lust, is the sensual exploitation of a being for another, by imposition or mutual agreement. This lust - which is not true love - is defined as the desire to enjoy separately from God. ... Then we have that the false love is lust. In it there is no participation of the divine. It's selfish, blind, and exploiter and as it does not lead to the fruits of true love, it causes frustration, ignorance and pain, it persists due to its attachment or habit of sin.Śrīla Atulananda Ācārya :
